Robert Garbett, chief executive of Drone Major Group and chairman of the British Standards Institution (BSI) Committee on Drone Standards has been working on these standards for many years, working with the likes of the International Standards Organisation (ISO) with the aim of energising the industry.

As announced at the House of Lords, the first draft of the standards will be released in spring, allowing for greater input and implementation 'shortly thereafter', he said.

According to a 2016 report, Goldman Sachs predicted that the drone market would be worth $100 billion by 2020. Now because of the adoption of the technology in all environments, Surface, Underwater, Air and Space, this figure will be much higher.

The industry's growth will depend on the public's understanding the positive impact the use of drones can have.

BSI is seeking businesses that can add value to developing international and national standards.

The key industries where the use of drones is growing are Infrastructure, Agriculture, Medicine, Marine, Mining, Defence and many more.
